When did this begin to become popular/famous on the Internet and why?
Planking became popular in social networks, like Facebook, around 2009. It is not clear exactly where it started and when, majority of individuals are fixated with Australia or England being the locations of the first sightings of the planking meme. This meme goes to the extremes with its disregard of safety of the individual. Planking is probably popular because of the ridicule, attention they get from spectators, and adrenaline individuals seek and adore, which is what most teenagers consider as “cool.”

 The details/description of the "meme"
